National Open Art competition

Woken by tulips

Wow! I have been shortlisted for NOA 2017. The second round is later but in the meantime there is the World Art Vote. You can vote for my picture from here.

If you would like to see other shortlisted work, go to this page. You can of course vote for several artists… but please do vote for me!

If I have asked you already elsewhere, sorry!

Not waving

A weird sea picture with references to Gauguin and Stevie Smith
Not waving

I love this gloomy piece which evolved under my eyes. My visual memory was jerked by the beginnings of the hunched up figure and I found the image I recalled in a book about Gauguin (hero!) with a photo of a Peruvian mummy. I have always loved the poem by Stevie Smith  – hence the title.

Maybe all the horrifying stories of drownings in the Mediterranean influenced me as well. We can never know all the subconscious themes.

Image 10×8 inches (25.5×20 cm).

Y is for Yellow is nearly finished…

yellowblogbutton150and for my last series in the year (the 3rd series) I have been working on aspects of Eve, the apple and the snake (or variations).

All images are 8×10 inches (20×25.5 cm) and are in mixed media.   They are not intended to illustrate the bible story accurately!

When the wind blows

Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

We live in the blue house

a quirky landscape by Catherine Redmayne featuring a blue house
We live in the blue house

Well, actually, we never lived in a blue house. But my neighbour has recently painted his fences and BBQ shelter in this shade of blue – and it looks very nice. So maybe a repainting job on my side of the fence is needed… Though it is easier to see and admire on the next door property and save the effort!

Image measures approx. 8 x 10 inches (20×25 cm).

The procession

mixed media painting by Catherine Redmayne
The procession

Can two be a procession? You have to imagine the rest! I just fell in love with the tiny figure on the right who appeared out of nowhere.

This is one of my pictures for the Tunbridge Wells International Art Fair 24-26 June 2016 (to be shown there by Redleaf Gallery).

The image is 8×10 inches (20×25 cms) approx. and is a mixed media painting.

‘Brave’ surprises for the tutor!

Pip Harrison (my co-author on the fairy tales) and I went to a workshop led by Jane Moran at Pallant House (Plait-Weave-Play). Here are our creations.
